Job Summary

Supervises maintenance programs for existing stores and ensures guidelines are being followed properly. Involved in making decisions which affect design processes, equipment validation and equipment disposition. Oversees maintenance personnel and ensure that work orders are being handled efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining partners; scheduling, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Works in conjunction with upper management to determine pay; and budget for department.
  • Monitors maintenance systems, energy usage, costs, and usages.
  • Adjusts equipment set points and operations to achieve optimal system operations.
  • Initiates service work orders to ensure proper equipment operations.
  • Schedules and oversees preventative maintenance programs in conjunction with manufacturer specifications.
  • Assesses condition of equipment for repair, replacement, or refurbishment.
  • Oversees installation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Approves and codes contractor invoices for assigned stores.
  • Maintains budgets for maintenance and compliance.
  • Supports and trains Company technicians and contractors with service related questions and provides diagnosis of problems as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of best practices and latest technology applications for maintenacen systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of grocery retail process equipment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems in retail store facilities.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze building and equipment control systems for diagnostics and optimization of equipment conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and interpret documents such as plans, invoices, general business periodicals, safety rules, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form with Company leaders, partners, vendors, and sub-contractors.
  • Ability to use knives/box cutters.

  • Ability to operate heavy machinery/ hazardous equipment.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift/pallet jack.
  • Ability to use precision hand tools.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.

  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to drive in accordance with the BGC Driver policy.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in related field and four or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Completion of vocational or technical school preferred.
  • EPA Supermarket Certification required.
  • Industrial Refrigeration Operator Certification preferred.

  • Occasionally required to drive.
  • Attendance at work is required.

  • Work is generally performed in a variety of environments, including walk-ins, electrical rooms, rooftops, and parking lots.
  • Frequently exposed to wet, slippery or damp conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to outside temperatures and weather.
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme cold conditions (non-weather).
  • Occasionally exposed to cleaning agents.
  • Occasionally exposed to industrial odors, fumes and dust.
  • Occasionally exposed to heights.
  • Occasionally exposed to confined spaces (ex. air vents, crawl spaces).
  • Noise level varies.
