Job Summary

Actively involved with accounting functions for all areas of the company, with significant focus on period end. Collaborates with multiple departments regarding financial entries, budgets and analysis. Applies critical thinking to areas of responsibility and supports department and Company objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with accounting team and collaborates with others to achieve department and Company objectives.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts. Documents related business transactions.
  • Provides accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of financial information.
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheets.
  • Works collaboratively with the real estate and fixed asset groups on matters related to property, leases and assets to ensure proper compliance with GAAP.
  • Reviews, analyses and makes recommendations regarding accounting of reserves, impairments, disposals and expenditures.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposed and new regulations and legislation impacting revenues; prepares recommendations regarding alternatives available to minimize fiscal impacts.
  • Interprets and summarizes profit and loss statements. Reviews current and projected company financial position for accounting leadership.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities in all areas of the Company.
  • Maintains effective internal controls over the Company’s accounting procedures and financial systems.
  • Makes recommendations for improving accounting operations, financial reporting and controls.
  • Supports strategic planning for department and specific areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in the annual financial audit and ensures adherence to deadlines.
  • Participates in periodic physical counts of Company assets.
  • Committed to expanding knowledge base through continuous learning and proactively applies new concepts to the business.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in GAAP, finance, and management accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial software systems including transactional ERPs and budget planning tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business and/or finance and four or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and higher education required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status preferred.
  • Previous retail industry experience preferred.
