Job Summary

Actively involved in accounting functions for all areas of the company, and oversees accounting functions within assigned area, with significant focus on period end. Collaborates with multiple departments regarding financial entries, budgets and analysis. Applies critical thinking to areas of responsibility and supports department and Company objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for training, planning, assigning and directing the work of department personnel and determining departmental budget. Works in conjunction with upper management in supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, promotions, terminations, disciplinary actions and determining pay.
  • Works with management team and collaborates with others to achieve department and Company objectives.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts. Documents related business transactions.
  • Develops and monitors business performance metrics that further enable GAAP accuracy for business functions assigned.
  • Oversees accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of financial information.
  • Supports leadership in assessing current accounting operations and financial reporting/controls. Offers recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies and implementing new procedures.
  • Supports upper management to complete monthly functional reviews within the accounting department.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities.
  • Maintains effective internal controls over the Company’s accounting procedures and financial systems.
  • Supports strategic planning for department and specific areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in the annual financial audit and ensures adherence to deadlines.
  • Committed to expanding knowledge base through continuous learning and proactively applies new concepts to the business.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in GAAP, finance, and management accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of software systems including transactional ERPs and budget planning tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting and/or finance and six or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and higher education required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status preferred.
  • Previous retail industry experience preferred.
