Financial Reporting Accountant III

Job Summary

Actively involved with accounting functions for all areas of the company, with significant focus on period and year-end close, variance analysis, and balance sheet accounts reconciliation. Collaborates with multiple departments regarding financial entries, budgets and analysis. Applies critical thinking to areas of responsibility and supports department and Company objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with accounting team and collaborates with others to achieve department and Company objectives.
  • Provides accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of financial information.
  • Prepares financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, statement of comprehensive income, and statement of owners’ equity.
  • Coordinates and prepares monthly analysis materials for review meetings with senior management.
  • Reconciles equity general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with variance analysis and monthly journal entry reviews.
  • Coordinates annual external financial statement audit.
  • Schedules and assists with monthly financial statement review meetings.
  • Calculates diluted earnings per share for disclosure in the annual audited financial statements.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries on an as needed basis.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities in all areas of the Company.
  • Participates in the annual financial audit and ensures adherence to deadlines.
  • Committed to expanding knowledge base through continuous learning and proactively applies new concepts to the business.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in GAAP, finance, and management accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial software systems including transactional ERPs and budget planning tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules during period, and year-end close.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business and/or finance and four or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and higher education required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status preferred.
  • Previous retail industry experience preferred.
