Fixed Asset & Lease Accountant

Job Summary

Actively involved with accounting functions for all areas of the Company, with significant focus on leases, fixed assets and period end. Collaborates with multiple departments regarding financial entries, budgets and analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts. Documents related business transactions.
  • Provides accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of financial information to management.
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheets.
  • Works collaboratively with all departments on matters related to property, leases, and assets to ensure proper compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding accounting of reserves, impairments, disposals and expenditures.
  • Provides guidance and education on proper accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposed and new GAAP/Tax regulations and legislation that impact revenues and expenses. Prepares recommendations regarding alternatives available to minimize fiscal impacts.
  • Interprets and summarizes profit and loss statements. Reviews current and projected Company financial position for accounting leadership.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities in all areas of the Company.
  • Maintains effective internal controls over the Company’s accounting procedures and financial systems.
  • Develops strategies on accounting procedures, financial reporting and controls, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Continuously identifies and implements efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Works with partners on handling non-routine accounting and analysis activity.
  • Assists management with strategic planning for department and specific areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains necessary records in preparation for annual financial audits and ensures adherence to deadlines.
  • Participates in periodic physical counts of Company assets with potential travel to Company locations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in GAAP, finance, and management accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP reporting and transactional applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of software systems used for the purpose of planning, forecasting and budgeting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business and/or finance and four or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and higher education required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) status preferred.
  • Previous retail industry experience preferred.
