Job Summary
Manages internal claim processes and serves as the liaison with third-party claim administrators. Works with risk management and legal to evaluate general liability claims. Provides support and guidance in bringing all claims and litigation to satisfactory resolution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates with third-party claims administrators on the gathering of new claim information and investigative materials, and reports on their performance to risk management leaders.
- Reviews and responds to communication with outside legal counsel and executive leadership regarding general liability claims.
- Assists with communication with defense attorneys on third-party administrators regarding litigated and non-litigated claims. Evaluates liability exposures and responds to inquiries and requests for records and information.
- Serves as a Company representative at mediations and trials when appropriate.
- Works closely with retail, retail support, and leadership concerning general liability claims.
- Ensures new claims are completed properly by retail and retail support operations in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with risk management and legal to evaluate claims and settlements and provide recommendations on resolution.
- Conducts research and assists in collecting and organizing discovery and factual information related to Company legal matters.
- Assists with communication with partners, stakeholders, third-party administrators, and attorneys to obtain information and provide updates regarding claims.
- Assists in pre-litigation and litigation matters, including discovery.
- Completes continuing education courses necessary to maintain proper licensing.
- Investigates liability claims, determines coverage, and issues payment within provided authority.
- Reviews and adjusts reserves on liability claims.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of SAP reporting and transactional applications.
- Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and analyze information.
- Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
- Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
- Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
- Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
- Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
- Minimum of 21 years of age required.
- Must obtain Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification through Company LEARN program within 2 weeks of starting in role.
- Relevant adjusters’ licenses in the states in which BGC administers claims preferred.
