Job Summary

Handles installation, testing, and maintenance of hardware, wiring, and fiber optic cabling essential for voice and data communications. Ensures efficient and reliable communication infrastructure throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Measures, cuts, splices, tests, and installs communications wiring and fiber optic cabling as per layout plans.
  • Installs hardware and connects communications wiring and fiber optic cabling to appropriate systems and hardware.
  • Examines, disassembles, and repairs mechanisms, including components, wires, circuits, and signaling units.
  • Operates and tests hardware to confirm the resolution of malfunctions.
  • Terminates communications wiring and fiber optic cabling by preparing terminal leads, installing connectors, punch blocks, in addition to Category 5E/ Category 6.
  • Monitors hardware and systems for malfunctions and perform adjustments, relocations, or replacements as necessary.
  • Analyzes operational malfunctions using testing devices to diagnose defects and determine necessary repairs.
  • Completes Help Desk tickets in line with expertise and responsibilities.
  • Coordinates and oversees schedules of subcontractors when additional labor is needed for projects.
  • Installs and maintains POS (Point of Sale) systems and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to review and interpret technical documents, such as electrical and wiring plans and safety manuals.
  • Ability to handle more complex tasks and troubleshoot more advanced systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods, and processes.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts, and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to develop and present information effectively in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and plan work independently.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift/pallet jack.
  • Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and three or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age required.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
