Job Summary

Responsible for using pallet jack to locate and accurately pull products and prepare pallets according to order for retail store delivery. This position will begin as a trainee and shadow a trainer and other warehouse partners for hands-on training specific to the order selector position (job duties listed below).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receives training and development to gain knowledge and skills in warehouse operations by filling orders for retail stores.
  • Uses warehouse communication system to locate and pull products for retail store orders in an accurate, productive, and safe manner.
  • Maneuvers pallet jack to stack products onto pallets securely for delivery to store.
  • Ensures cases, bales, and containers contain appropriate labels, tags, and information.
  • Maintains clean, safe, and sanitary working environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.
  • Shrink wraps store orders with label and moves completed orders to the loading dock staging area using pallet jack.
  • Reports product discrepancies or quality issues to management including damaged product, equipment issues, etc.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the Brookshire Grocery Company training, safety programs concerning the safe operation of powered equipment, and material handling.
  • Area of operation may be a grocery or perishable warehouse, depending on role hired for.
  • Level of weight that will be handled will depend on results from the passed physical test (medium/heavy).

  • Basic knowledge of the warehouse communication system and ordering machine.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to operate a pallet jack.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy machinery/hazardous equipment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • High school Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Involves on-the-job training as an Order Selector Trainee prior to becoming an Order Selector upon successful completion of training.
  • Food Handler certification required.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • Required to pass a physical agility test.

  • Continuously required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 100 lbs (heavy).

  • Continuously required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to use fine finger movements (ex. sorting and typing).

Work Context and Environment

  • Work is generally performed in a warehouse setting.
  • Continuously exposed to industrial odors, fumes and dust.
  • Frequently exposed to extreme cold conditions (non-weather) where applicable (perishable warehouse).
  • Frequently exposed to extreme heat conditions (non-weather) where applicable (grocery warehouse).
  • Frequently exposed to outside temperatures (grocery warehouse).
  • Occasionally exposed to wet, slippery or damp conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to heights.
  • Noise level varies.
