Job Summary

Leads product quality control functions during inbound and outbound shipping; monitors warehouse conditions; assists in the implementation and adherence to policies, procedures, and programs to ensure quality control standards are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with upper management to lead the daily activities and workflow of department personnel to achieve maximum quality and productivity. May assist in overseeing limited department operations through training and developing partners, providing feedback, and preparing work schedules.
  • Leads a team and performs inspections for weight and temperature along with overall specifications according to BGC and regulatory guidelines. Rejects unsafe and poor-quality products; records and reports findings to management.
  • Checks vaults on a daily basis to assess and maintain product quality and temperature.
  • Looks for quality improvement opportunities and provides recommendations to management.
  • Communicates product issues to category management partners in order to keep them informed on quality of products.
  • Records and analyzes statistical data in order to write summaries to validate or show deviations from existing standards.
  • Ensures product temperature levels are closely monitored for high-risk and high-priority items. Retrieves temperature recording devices and maintains accurate data logs.
  • Checks Universal Product Codes (UPC), Price Look-Up (PLU) codes, country of origin labeling, and expiration dates.
  • Monitors the produce ripening process as needed, utilizing ethylene gas. Ensures proper handling in alignment with company and regulatory guidelines, while maintaining accurate data logs
  • Inspects inbound seafood for quality and temperature. Maintains accurate data logs according to Seafood HACCP guidelines.
  • Performs and monitors lab samples for the Ice Plant and maintains accurate data logs according to company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Reviews and updates quality control procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of produce.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical sampling concepts.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to learn and maintain regulations and guidelines pertaining to product quality control.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to use knives/box cutters and other measurement tools.
  • Ability to operate a fork lift/pallet jack.
  • Ability to use precision hand tools.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in related field and one or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.

  • Occasionally exposed to industrial odors, fumes and dust.
  • Moderate to loud noise level.
