Retail Maintenance Manager

Job Summary

Manages maintenance programs for existing stores and ensures guidelines are being followed properly. Involved in making decisions which affect design processes, equipment validation and equipment disposition. Oversees maintenance personnel and ensure that work orders are being handled efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out management responsibilities in conjunction with upper management including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; budgeting, determining pay; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining partners; scheduling, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Responsible for developing programs to extend equipment life through management of partners, supplier compliance and strategies.
  • Works with upper management to establish and manage category expenses, service levels and equipment life cycles.
  • Actively involved in maintenance supplier selection, contract negotiation, resource development and external services.
  • Develops and maintains skills and resource knowledge relating to general maintenance, structural outlines, store equipment, technology and procedures.
  • Responsible for managing external suppliers and leading workforce service level agreements.
  • Estimates project costs based on developed scope of work. Works with purchasing leaders to select and validate equipment.
  • Works with project management to coordinate qualifying contractors, bidding construction services and scheduling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of grocery retail process equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems in retail store facilities.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction project management methodology.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to use precision hand tools.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in related field and six or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.

  • Work is performed in a variety of environments including walk-ins, electrical rooms, rooftops and parking lots.
  • Noise level varies.
