Retail Refrigeration Manager

Job Summary

Manages HVAC/Refrigeration/EMS program for existing stores, new construction, remodels and special projects. Oversees partners responsible for compliance related to refrigeration maintenance. Involved in making decisions which affect design processes, equipment validation and equipment disposition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out management responsibilities in conjunction with upper management including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; budgeting, determining pay; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining partners; scheduling, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Responsible for maximizing energy efficiency and extending equipment life through management of partners, supplier compliance and strategies.
  • Works with upper management to establish and manage category expenses, service levels and equipment life cycles.
  • Actively involved in refrigeration supplier selection, contract negotiation, resource development and external services.
  • Develops and maintains skills and resource knowledge relating to HVAC/Refrigeration/EMS technology and procedures.
  • Responsible for refrigerant program management. Leads workforce and supplier compliance regarding refrigerant leak strategies and targets.
  • Estimates project costs based on developed scope of work. Works with purchasing leaders to select and validate equipment.
  • Works with project management to coordinate qualifying contractors, bidding construction services and scheduling.
  • Oversees construction quality and communicates updates and necessary reports to company leaders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of multiple types and designs of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer-based environmental and refrigeration controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems in retail store facilities.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction project management methodology.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret information.
  • Ability to use precision hand tools.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to off-site and out-of-town locations with possible overnight stays.
  • Ability to work on-call and flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in related field and six or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • EPA Supermarket Certification required.
  • Supermarket Refrigeration State License preferred.
