Job Summary

Cross-trains in various transportation support tasks with a focus on planning loads. Utilizes routing software to analyze efficient truck routes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes routing software to create, assign, and analyze efficient truck routes to reduce the cost of goods.
  • Sequences truck stops and coordinates outbound delivery times within a specific time window.
  • Communicates with drivers, stores, dispatchers, business systems partners, and other relevant parties on the transportation of goods, driver schedules, route changes, delivery issues, etc.
  • Prepares all daily shipping documents for store deliveries and backhauls. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of routing software.
  • Intermediate knowledge of DOT regulations and reporting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ELD systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SAP reporting and transactional applications for the payroll function.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Outlook.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to interpret maps and understand the relation of geographical distances.
  • Ability to analyze routing information to make efficient, safe, and cost-saving schedules.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with third-party carriers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form with partners and third-party carriers.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods and processes.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and analyze information.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to research information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to reason, form concepts and recognize and solve problems.
  • Ability to show information in presentation or diagram form.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays, as applicable.
  • Must have visual capability to see up close and far distances.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have auditory capability to hear and understand information given whether directly through a headset unit, over the intercom, and/or the ability to hear warning signals/sounds, hazardous sounds, etc.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the BGC attendance policy.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • High school Diploma or GED required. 
  • Completion of vocational or technical school preferred.
  • 2 or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification required for the DOT compliance function.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.

Physical Demands

  • Continuously required to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception or the ability to focus.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to use fine finger movements (ex. sorting and typing).
  • Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to use hands for reaching, touching or handling.
  • Occasionally required to push, pull, maneuver or lift objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel or squat.
  • Occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • Attendance at work is required.
